Why is Main Street and Downtown So Important?

1. Commercial Districts are prominent employment centers-Our Downtown employs hundreds if not thousands of people and collectively represent one of the area's largest employers.

2.Main Street is a reflection of community image, pride, prosperity, and level of investment.

3.It represents a significant portion of the City of Morristown and Hamblen County property Tax base.

4.It is an ideal location for independent businesses that keep their dollars in town, support other local businesses, support local projects, and provide an stable economic foundation with strong ties to the community.

5.Downtown is the historic core of the both the City and the County. This is where it all started back in 1855!

6. Our "Skymart System" of overhead walkways should be a tourist attraction and not a "distraction".  Let's promote and preserve what we have!!

7. A vital and healthy Main Street protects property values and uses resources wisely such as police, fire and public works.

8. Main Street offers the convenience of free parking and short walking distances to our many shops, restaurants, and store fronts. Time is money.
